Info
Ana Lucia Cortez made her first appearance during the Season 1 Finale
as the confident and flirtatious woman that Jack Shepard met in the
airport bar just prior to the doomed Ocean Flight 815. The two had
a brief yet interesting conversation before Ana Lucia received a mysterious
phone call on her cell and departed, telling Jack "We'll have
the next drink on the plane, ok?" Little
did the audience know, she would later reappear in the third episode
of Season 2, and soon play an integral part in the show's overall
direction and that season's major arc. Unaware that eachother had
survived, both Jack and Ana became leaders of their surviving groups,
which resided on different sides of the island. During her horrific
first 48 days on the island, Ana was put to the test as she tried
desperately to keep her people alive. They were attacked twice by
the mysterious "Others", who abducted a total of 12 people,
including two small children whom Ana was highly protective of. Throughout
their stay on the island, Ana had killed two of "the Others",
one in a harrowing fight after she'd figured out that he had been
posing as a fellow survivor all along. After killing him, Ana seemed
even more hardened, ultimately adopting a dominating and sometimes
harsh leadership technique with the last remaining tail section survivors.
She only broke once, after 40 days, weeping in the arms of the silent
Eko.
Finally reunited with the rest of the survivors of Flight 815, including
Jack, Ana Lucia was somewhat of an outcast amongst the group due to
the accidental shooting death of Shannon. A former police officer,
Ana Lucia struggled with her haunted past which included the loss
of her unborn child after having been shot in the line of duty. In
a shocking turn of events, Ana Lucia Cortez met her untimely death
at the hands of the desperate father Michael, who unexpectedly shot
her and another survivor, Libby, while inside the hatch. Though her
death was horrific and unjust, at the very least Ana Lucia finally
found her peace.
