Info
Diana Guzman is a troubled girl on the brink of womanhood. Her teachers
don't understand her, her father underestimates her and her friends
are few. Diana doesn't know how to control her anger, and more importantly,
she doesn't care. Living in the Brooklyn projects with her dismissive
father and younger brother, Diana struggles with boredom and discontent
with the seemingly hopeless world around her. She has nothing to lose,
or gain, by not controlling her violent temper. For Diana, it's hit
or be hit, and she'd much rather be the one packing the punch. One
day, Diana discovers the world of boxing at a local gym. She immediately
knows she has finally found a place where she truly belongs. Diana
begins training in secret with a reluctant but fatherly coach. After
much training, she learns to control her temper and channel her strength.
For the first time in her life, she has found something that makes
sense. Soon she is competing against both male and female opponents
and gaining momentum as a true contender. When a romance blossoms
with a fellow boxer, she must struggle with the decision of what is
truly important to her when she is reluctantly paired against him
in an important fight. In the end, Diana not only developes a mastery
of her physical self, but more importantly she discovers her true
inner self, finding inside, someone who is more capable than she could
have imagined.
